Google releases answer to Passport

Posted by Garett Rogers @ 9:32 am  Digg

This!Google just released the Account Authentication Proxy for Web-Based Applications — which looks a lot like Passport. According to the website, this proxy lets web-based applications create services protected by a Google Account by enabling a web application to get an authentication token without ever handling the user’s account login information. The user must log into their account using a Google supplied login page and grant limited access to the web application.Web applications, if granted, can access certain information associated with that users Google account — for example Google Calendar events. Users explicitly have to give websites access to their services before any of their data will be shared.googlesecureaccess.jpg

Open Registration now at claimID with OpenID

It’s finally live and I’d like to take this opportunity to announce we’re leaving our beloved beta.

Our registration form is now ready and willing to take your information and create a new claimID account. Come on in.

However, if you already have an OpenID account somewhere else on the web (LiveJournal, MyOpenID, Verisign’s PIP, etc.), you can create an account here without needing a password. We’ll still need to verify your email address – but passwords? So last year.

A small community has already begun to grow around our user base and we hope to add to the ranks in the coming weeks. We’ve got mailing lists for users and developers to communicate with one another and with us.

We’re going out of our way to be open and forthcoming with everything you see at claimID. Identity is too important to play games and it’s too personal to cover with ads. Join us and help make claimID better.

Anyone see those ninjas this time around? Love that.

ClaimID Leaves Private Beta

ClaimIDAnd just like that, we’ve left private beta. ClaimID is now open for anyone to register an account. Chris Messina covers the launch here.

It has been a short 3 1/2 months since we first opened the doors of our little website, and we’ve done a lot of work. We’ve built our system on top of OpenID, we’ve pioneered MicroID-based link verification, we’ve added support for a bunch of standards, and we’ve created a service that really helps you manage your online identity.

In the meantime, we’ve attended a bunch of identity conferences, seen how hard some of this stuff is, and decided to build a system that will give you the tools you need to manage your identity on the web. You’re going to need this stuff – our job is to make it extremely simple for you. If we can do that, we’re gonna be around for a long time.

And the fact we’re going to be around for a long time is key. You are going to have an online identity for the rest of your life. Right now, we’re just getting started trying to figure out the best ways to help you. Keep an eye on us – we’re going to be constantly making the service better, and more useful to you.

Oh, and if you want to join the thousands of people that have already started managing their online identity, cruise on over and sign up at http://claimid.com – no invite required.

So this is pretty exciting. Today marks a new chapter in the life of ClaimID.
